Description
BRM has ventured into automotive manufacturing abroad to capitalise on its vast experience and strength in the automotive component manufacturing industry. Expansion abroad is led by JRD Automobiles Group with total investment to date of US$160 million and US$100 million in China and Vietnam respectively.
The plant in China, acquired in 2005, sits on a 50 hectare piece of land in Qingyuan City, Guangdong. It has a workforce of 1000 employees and is capable of producing 50,000 vehicles annually.
In Vietnam, a 50 hectare plant in the central province of Phu Yen is operated by JRD Motor Industries (Vietnam) Co. Ltd., a joint venture between JRD Motor Vehicle Co. Ltd. and Phu Yen Import-Export Company. Production capacity will be 30,000 vehicles annually.
Both plants will manufacture SUV, MPV, mini van and commercial vehicles such as pickup truck, light truck, and lorry in the low to medium price range for export to selected overseas countries. The vehicles will be sold under the JRD brand name.
