Description
The Classic Coffee Table is adapted from a stool illustrated in George Smith's 1808 edition and is a believable and practical piece of furniture for today's interior. Although the coffee table was unknown in the time of the golden age of cabinet making, this coffee table will provide the answer to the problem of what to use in the classic interior, because it is scaled up from a pattern book of the early 19th century , it will suit the classic or contemporary interior.
George Smith published design books, most notably the 1808 & 1826 editions. No piece of furniture has been documented that was actually made in his workshops. Many of his design are strongly reminiscent of the Thomas Hope designs illustrated in "Household Furniture and Interior Decoration" (1807).
